ArtistoftheWeek:MiChi3/24/10-3/31/10

Well, to me MiChi is a great artist to have in your collection. Especially if you like some good J-Pop. Her first album, "MiChi MadNesS" is all English but after so much Japanese popularity of that album she went to Japan to pursue her music career and promote the great nation of the UK.
And who could blame her? If most of your fan base was in Japan you'd go rock it out there too.
Great songs from the album are mostly covers but the song that made me notice this great artist is her rendetion of You Gotta Be. A great song done by her.

Her next album, "Up To You", is a great sophomore album to the first. Consisting of japanese songs with some parts where she slips into English at time.
Featuring singles like,
HEy GirL
KiSS KiSS XXX
& ChaNge The WoRLd
I think that MiChi will be making so more great songs later in time, all we have to do is wait and see what she does next.

ArtistoftheWeek:Julieta Venegas3/16/10-3/23/10

Julieta Venegas is possibly one of the best Latin Pop Singer/Songwriters I know. Her songs consist of lyrics that are so beautiful. It puts light into a relationship that's not working. Writing great songs like,
Lento
A Tu Lado
Algo Esta Cambiando
Limon y Sal
Me Voy
Eres Para Mi
and Bien O Mal
who can say that this talented Latin Siren can't write good songs? She even wrote the song Bajo Otra Luz for Nelly Furtado. Julieta and La Mala Rodriguez featured on Bajo Otra Luz too. That's how I found out about her, cause of Nelly Furtado's album Mi Plan. Thank God for Nelly Furtado!

She's released a new album called Otra Cosa and it's a great one. It's got more of that Spanish sound feeling to the album. I can't really describe it it's just great.
Give some songs a listen and you'll understand.
Amores Platonicos
Despedida

ArtistoftheWeek: Corinne Bailey Rae 3/8/10-3/15/10

If you like Aretha Franklin, Chaka Kahn, or Soul you should check this album out.
What's going on now? I haven't heard anyone talk about Corinne outside of the internet or even on the internet! Her music videos aren't even on VH1 yet!? Maybe it's too early. It's only been 2 months since the release of her new album. I don't know if I just found out about Corinne's new album too soon or maybe people just pushed her aside so they can go listen to some more Beiber/Gaga songs or something. Ok, let me start out with who Corinne is. She's that girl that sang the song, "Put Your Records On". Remember?....
"Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song. You go ahead let your hair down."

Plus, who can forget the oh so romantic song, Like A Star & Trouble Sleeping?
Well guys, if you really liked those songs then I've got news for you. She's released a new album called, The Sea. After the passing of her husband Jason Rae, Corinne took a little hiatus from music. Staying cooped up in her house listening to greats such as, Leonard Cohen and Nina Simone. During this hiatus she wrote beautiful and moving songs that are upbeat while some focused on the grief she felt lyrically. The Sea is mixed with songs before and after the death of her husband. The songs worked really well for her sophomore album.
Her first single, "I'd Do It All Again", written before Jason's death, the song is about the commitment Corinne had to her relationship with Jason Rae. Even in the middle of the worst times she'd do it all again. This song was written right after she had a huge argument with her husband. Very powerful love song.
Her second single, "Paris Nights/New York Mornings", is a sassy, upbeat and catchy song filled with lyrics of observation and exploration. Basically an adventurous song. A favorite of mine from The Sea.
The Sea, celebrates the beauty of life much more than wallowing over a lost one. The album is a soulful album that reminds you of the vocals of Aretha and the melodies of Carole King. This album is a great album filled with pop/soul sounds and a faint feel of neo-soul. It's a great album to start Spring with.

I give this album 4.5 out of 5 stars. For bravery, courage, authenticity, soul, and loyalty. Corinne could have made this album into a depressing one but she didn't. She could have stopped doing music and just went on to living a normal life but she didn't want to. She could have released the album in 2012 instead of 2010 but she decided not to.I think that no matter what critics might say about the new album, we should all just be glad that Corinne is doing better and has given us new music to listen to. Thank You, Corinne Bailey Rae.

Here's some songs that might make you buy the album.

ArtistoftheWeek: Rogue Wave 3/1/10-3/7/10

Hey kids! Do you love the sounds of synth dance-pop with men singing in falsetto voices? Songs like, "Time To Pretend" by MGMT, "A Thing For Me" by Metronomy or "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit? Well, it's time to put that kiddy music that drives people away from you down and it's time to grow up and learn about some music that'll make you the music guru among your friends!
Rogue Wave has been noted and featured in shows like Weeds and a lot teen dramas. All that aside after a couple albums and a commercial hit( "Lake Michigan") later, they released they're most recent album. So recent it was released just on March 2nd, called Permalight.
The sound of the album is the ideal of indie pop/rock. It's unique and catchy with strong male vocals. Notable songs like, "Good Morning (The Future)" and the Title track, "Permalight", are good songs to listen to for all those MGMT, Metronomy, Crystal Castles, Passion Pit, etc. fans.
The lead singers voice is reminicent of Ben Gibbard (Lead Singer of Death Cab For Cutie). The rest of the songs on the album are really good, singer-songwriter material.
Rogue Wave's Permalight album is 4 out of 5 stars for me.
You know, one of the many things that I like about their new album, Permalight is that it's a great album to listen to while you're waiting for you favorite artists to release some new songs.
If you're a die-hard indie music lover then check out their earlier albums but if you only listen to the Radio nowadays then listen to "Good Morning ( The Future)" and "Permalight". It'll be a stepping stone away from bad music. (Just kidding....I'm not kidding.....)

Here's some songs to start you off.
