ArtistoftheWeek: Thao & Mirah 6/20/11-6/27/11

Thao & Mirah, are both wonderful singer/songwriters. Not once in my life I ever thought of the two making an album together.Usually when two singer/songwriters make albums together the album sounds like one overpowering the other. Not this one. These two are so in sync, with one another on songs and melodies it's almost uncanny. With Mirah's vocals and Thao's verbal beats, the two created a good harmony in the song, Little Cup.With their lead single, Eleven, it's a song that grows on you. (I know that people say that and 9 times out of 10 that's not true for a lot of music lovers but it is, trust me.) The catchy beats, and vocal attitudes from Mirah & Thao are amazing! Folks, is a very chill song on the album, one for a relaxing summer day on a porch sitting on a rocking chair.
Spaced Out Orbit, really reminds me of Mirah's style of music. How Dare You is like a call and response type of song, I love that they do that. I love call-respond songs. So amazing. This really shows their strength of working together. Hallelujah is one song you will want to have in your collection. It's calm melody and subtle reminders of religion is a great thing to have. Especially is your filled with doubts. Squareneck, is the title for the guitar used in the song, and the guitar really does make the whole song. Greatly done! I hope this is not the end of Thao & Mirah, but who knows what they plan to do in the future.

ArtistoftheWeek:Yuna6/13/11-6/20/11

If you were part of the AOTW Awards in January, you know here as the artist who shared her heart to the world through her video, Decorate. Now she is being featured as ArtistoftheWeek. This musician has been influenced by western music since she was a child. Listen to artists like, The Cranberries, Fiona Apple, Coldplay and Lykke Li, it only made sense that she should grow up to become a talented Indie Singer/Songwriter musician. She gained success in Malaysia with her song Dan Sebernarnya, and has earned recognition in America with her music video, Decorate. With her style and musical creativity she has gotten the privilege to get signed to Fader and has released an EP in America this year.

ArtistoftheWeek:Bess Rogers 6/6/11-6/13/11

If you don't know this artist, Bess Rogers, you should. Bess is a Singer/Songwriter, fueled with a couple of guitars, a ukelele and a strong voice. When you listen to her songs you may notice the professional experience she has with her lyrics. It's at the level of Nerina Pallot or Fefe Dobson style with some good guitar riffs and emotional vocals you have yourself and indie pop hit! A song that I'd like to recommend to you to check this girl out is, Come Home, Bulldozer, and Favorite Day. This artist has talent and swell songs fit for anyone's music collection.

ArtistoftheWeek:Elizabeth & the Catapult5/23/11-5/30/11

Elizabeth & the Catapult, an Indie Pop/Rock with a musical style dark and upbeat that would be fit for a score for a Showtime Original Television Series.
Elizabeth and the Catapult have been a critic favorite since they appeared on the music scene in 2006, with their self-titled EP release. Their debut album, Taller Children really captured music critics with their honest and observant lyrics along with soothing vocals of lead singer, Elizabeth Ziman, and their catchy melodies, especially with their commercial song, Race You, the band was made to be noticed.
Their second album, The Other Side of Zero, expressed more of a pop like sound, with songs such as, (Time) We All Fall Down and You & Me, songs featuring themes more focused on love and life, more like the themes featured in the last album. The first few songs on the album are ones that are needed for a good music collection in the spring/fall season.

ArtistoftheWeek:Jenny Owen Youngs4/25/11-5/2/11

Jenny Owen Youngs, that name has been one that I have talked about since 2005. She's been a great pop/rock musician to have when I was transitioning from mainstream pop/rock music to more independent music. The public found out about this musical gem from her song, single "Fuck Was I," from her debut album, Batten the Hatches. Having her music featured on so many showtime television shows such as, WEEDS and United States of Tara. (Which gives her so much credibility because Showtime is the highest of high for television quality.)
Anyways, enough talk, time for music, here's some songs and videos to enjoy! Hope you enjoy this musician as much as I have! She's a great one to have!

ArtistoftheWeek:Lelia Broussard2/28/11-3/7/11

Lelia Broussard is an awesome artist! Why? Because she's got a catchy beat with her melodies, she's got a style that she expresses through her music, and her photo shoots are pretty interesting as well. This beautiful singer/songwriter has gotten around in the music industry, especially in the indie pop department. (You know what I love about Indie Pop Singer/Songwriters, they all become friends with musicians I love.) So I guess you could say that she's had a good time going around promoting her sound and style to the States.
She's recently been selected to be mentored by Russel Simmons, hopefully that will not change her but at least improve her musical talents (and hopefully her popularity!).
I can't wait to her more from this talented gem!

ArtistoftheWeek:Emily Hearn11/23/10-11/30/10

Emily Hearn's music has really touched people's hearts with her songs. She released an EP in 2009 called, Paper Hearts. She started a project on Kickstarter, a way for her fans to fund her debut album that is expected to release sometime either in fall 2011 or Spring 2012.
I found out about Emily when I was exploring Kickstarter and saw all of the amazing artists on the website. When I found out about her when I clicked on her I watched the video and the song that played. I thought that she was pretty good so I looked her up saw her site which was pretty cool and listened to her EP.
If you liked Clara C, then you'll love Emily Hearn!

ArtistoftheWeek:Clara C9/28/10-10/5/10

Clara C, an amazing singer-songwriter with the heart filled light and the mind filled with catchy pop songs for those sunny autumn days. This new artist has been making a breakthrough with her popular videos of her covering pop songs. Taking something like, Use Somebody and making it her own. She's been featured in many songs and has collaborated with many musicians all over America.
This artist has won 1st place for the Kollaboration for 2010.
She's recently graduated from College this year!Which is pretty impressive that she did all those videos and wrote all the songs while in College. She's worked with Wong Fu Productions for a couple of films.
She's been everywhere.
If this is your first time hearing about her from me. You've missed out! It's ok though, she just released her debut album, The Art In My Heart, last Friday so don't hesitate to order this amazing album. The CD has lyrics, photos, and of course the CD.
Plus if you're lucky you might get it signed!
Clara C is a great artist to have in your music collection.

ArtistoftheWeek:Becca Johnson8/31/10-9/7/10

I love this artist, even though she's not officially a musician yet. But, she released her songs on the now defunct quarterlife.com and they were amazing! Her songs are so perfect for a road trip to your college. basically a fall road trip in general. Now this picture, I don't really know for sure if this is her picture but it's the only one I could find of her. So..Yeah...
One day she gave me the songs for free through the email! And she will always be my favorite artist for that! If she ever releases an album, I'm buying it!

Becca, thank you so much for your songs they really did help me ease into my move from home to College. I will cherish your songs until the day I die.

- CCR (aka AOTW)
P.S. If you want me to take these songs off of the site I will as soon as I can just contact me. Love to hear how you've been.

Ok guys here's free songs from Becca Johnson that will make you love her as much as I do right now! Enjoy!

ArtistoftheWeek:Round Table feat. Nino8/24/10-8/31/10

I love ROUND TABLE feat. Nino! They're like the Japanese Version of Ivy! They rock. Sadly they don't get a lot of recognition for their music but trust me if you like Bossa Nova or just calming pop music you'll love this group.
I found out about this band from an anime show (of course..) And I loved their song called, "Let Me Be With You (New Step Mix)" it was on Chobits. I knew about their song and bought both of the Chobits Soundtracks for that song. A few years later I find out about another Anime Series that caught my eye, called, Welcome To The NHK, and their song, Puzzle ~Extra Hot Mix~ was it's theme song.
I loved it so much that I looked for more of their songs and was opened to a whole collection of beautiful songs from them. ROUND TABLE feat. Nino is the best.
I really like that they actually take their time with their music and release a new album every 2-3 years instead of every 10 months like the really popular Japanese artists. Now that's crazy!
ROUND TABLE's style is a cool one and a unique sound indeed. I still kind of see them as the brighter more lovable side and Japanese side of Ivy. But Ivy wouldn't be able to do their music and vice versa it's like Ivy and ROUND TABLE are the same but they're not.
Anyways, this is the last artist for the Summer of 2010. Hope you listen to these songs and think back to the great times you had in the summer and the bad times and the moderate times. All the times of your wonderful summer! :)

ArtistoftheWeek:Brookville8/10/10-8/16/10

I always loved the melodies and sounds of Ivy, and I didn't really find out about Brookville until I watched Great Mistake.

I checked out his third release, Broken Lights and I loved the album. I then listened to the rest of his songs on his last two albums and I was automatically hooked.
His melodies are mellow and mostly likely elevator music but you have to admit that would be some great music to listen to in the elevator.
His first album, Wonderfully Nothing, was more electronic, and relaxing. It's a great elevator music album. Then again, I love music that's for elevators.
His second album, Life In The Shade, was a more structured and more lyrical album than the first.
His third and most recent album, Broken Lights, is a very blue album. The artwork really fits the feel of the album. The album includes more guitars and is way more lyrical than the last two albums. I have to say my favorite album right now is, Broken Lights. A great album for a blue day or on days when the sun doesn't come out on a summer day.

ArtistoftheWeek:Postmarks6/19/10-6/25/10

I love the Postmarks, their sound reminds me of Rainy Spring and sunny summer days. I found out about this band from Pandora.com. Their debut album is perfect to listen to on a rainy day.The Postmarks, came in at a great time, they were sometimes recognized as the new Ivy. With they're style and the overall feeling their music gives.

ArtistoftheWeek:Allie Moss5/3/10-5/10/10

Allie Moss, best known as back up singer of Ingrid Michaelson, has made some head way into her creative musical mind recently. With her earlier songs, she had kind of the same feel and sound of Ingrid Michaelson but recently she's been going her own way.
I know that one of the most unique and catchy songs she's made is called "Corner" on the Passerby EP, her debut EP,that's so far my favorite song of her's.
She's been kept busy touring with Ingrid and making music of her own. Balancing her work with Ingrid and her work with her own music. I like that. You don't hear a lot of backup singers do that.

ArtistoftheWeek:Gemma Hayes 4/17/10-4/24/10

I love Gemma Hayes, I remember the first time I heard her when she played on Grey's Anatomy with her song, "Two Step". Great song. I didn't really cheeck out the artist until about Mid-March this year. 4 years after I heard her singing on Grey's.
I had her second album, The Roads Don't Love You, and I finally listened through the whole album (w/o multitasking) and I found my second favorite song of all time, called, "Another for the Darkness". The melody, vocals, and lyrics, all wrapped up into a great song. After listening to the song I looked for more songs from this wonderful artist. The songs on The Roads Don't Love You, reminded me of grieving and getting over a death of a loved one.

Her debut album, Night On My Side, really took my breath away. Especially when I saw the music videos for, "Let A Good Thing Go", "Hanging Around", and "Back Of Your Hand". I really liked the feeling of the album, it's like the feeling of a calm night out on the town. The streetlights and the fast cars fly by while you're calming contemplating about your life.

Her most recent album, "The Hollow Of Morning", is an acoustically melancholic album filled with songs for that empty feeling in the morning hence the title, it's a pretty good for that feeling for the early morning out in the wild with your RV and a can of beans.

Now, I can't do this article without talking about her B-Sides and Collaborations.
"Summers In Doubt", the B-Side on the Let A Good Thing Go single, is such an amazing song to begin or end of your summertime fun or drama. Whichever way it's great for the season.
Gemma Hayes collaborated with Anti Atlas for a song called, "It's A Shame", a really well done song by an electronic band I've never heard of before and an artist that I've already heard of.
