ArtistoftheWeek: Missy Higgins 8/6/12-8/13/12

Missy Higgins has been gone a long time. Five years to be exact. It seems that Higgins needed some time out from the music industry for some time to recollect with herself and get all her stuff together. I have to admit the long break is a surprise to many fans like myself. She released two #1 Australian albums acquired ARIA Awards (Australian Grammys) and broke out into the US with her single, Where I Stood. Her music was featured all over television and had so much going for her. Then in 2007, she disappeared. Some thought that she'd never be heard of again like Lauryn Hill but she couldn't live on without the embrace of the music. The sounds, the melodies, the arranging, the emotional connection and the sharing of one's thoughts through song. Of course, Missy missed that life, and decided to come back strong with her new album, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle. In her new album, she is pouring her heart out about her relationship with music, people, life, and herself. It's an open confession of unconditional truth. I personally think that it beats her last two albums out of the water. If you haven't heard of Missy Higgins at all check out the songs that make her who she is today.

ArtistoftheWeek:Kimbra 6/18/11-6/25/11

Kimbra is an answer to many music lovers who are tired of the clubs, sex, money and promiscuity. Many people have heard of her from Gotye's hot chart topping single, "Somebody That I Used To Know". Where she sang a great female perspective of a hurtful break-up. Now she's singing about marriage. and love, and success and fitting in. She's singing about practically everything under the sun except club stuff.
Her debut album Vows is a great pop album that offers a different style to it than most modern day pop music. She provides amazing scatting and Jazz-elements in her tracks while writing lyrics that have been of course Kiwi-inspired (Kiwi is an Australian/New Zealand culture). Kimbra is showing herself in this album. After working so hard for the past 7 years of her life experimenting with different styles trying to figure out how to portray herself through her music has been an obstacle challenge but has paid of big time for her debut. She won an ARIA (Austalian Grammy) for her Vows album and has topped the Billboard charts for being at #13 in the first week of her Vows release in the US. Her album became the #1 iTunes Pop album and #2 iTunes album overall (right behind John Mayer but pfft on Mayer). As a fellow music lover who has watched a hard working artist build her way to the top is rewarding and Kimbra's journey has only just begun for her.

P.S. If you want to know, the album is WORTH the money! You can get it for 9.99 from Target with extra bonus tracks! Her album also has a lyric booklet for just in case you like to sing-a-long with Kimbra you can when you by Vows physically from Best Buy, Target (best place to buy it) or Barnes & Nobel.

~Kimbra will not disappoint~

ArtistoftheWeek:Seeker Lover Keeper6/27/11-7/4/11

Seeker Lover Keeper, amazing. There's nothing that I could say that no music lover from Australia who has a blog hasn't already covered about this band and this wonderful album. I love that the group is getting positive feedback and a lot of love from fans of Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann (Sally fan right here!)The only things that I've noticed that no one has talked about is, the negatives. I love the album, don't get me wrong it's just so many people have said things like,
1. I just can't see how these three could have collaborated and made such a good album. They seem so different.
No they don't. Sally, Sarah, and Holly are all content, quiet and shy singer/songwriters. The three collaborating is a perfect match. The only different thing about them is their, musical style and vocal range.

2. Seek her, Love ker, Keep her.

Guys, the name of the group is not a hidden message. It's just a name that Sally thought up for the group. Let it go, and stop making the group more sensitive than it already is.
3. Sara Blasko, Holly Thornsby, and Sally Seltman.
Now, I know you really don't love the group if you can't spell their names right and if you do or if you're just picking favorites by misspelling the artists you don't know/care for names then please don't spell any of their names. Give the girls some respect now.
Aside from those three things I love the fans and the group itself. The Australian Music Scene has proven itself once again with this new album from Seeker Lover Keeper.

Just in case you were wondering,
Sally Seltmann is the Seeker
Sarah Blasko is the Lover
& Holly Throsby is the Keeper

Sorry about that rant, just had to get that out (it's petty).

I can't describe the album to you, it's too amazing to put in words.
Listen to it for yourself here on their facebook page.

ArtistoftheWeek:Clare Bowditch8/2/10-8/9/10

I remember the day I found out about Clare Bowditch, it was 2007, and I was listening to New Buffalo Radio on Pandora.com. The first song that played was On This Side. I loved that song so much I couldn't wait for it to come on the radio again. I'd sometimes refresh the page so it'd put it on again. (Nowadays you can't do that with Pandora anymore.)
I then discovered a lot more songs from her and I fell in love with her album, What Was Left and The Moon Looked On. Now she has a new album coming out on August 13, 2010. I love the songs that are on the new album. (At least the one I heard) But knowing Clare and her songwriting, she's kicked this one out of the park!
If you like Australian Pop Music, and last week's AOTW then you'll love Clare Bowditch!

ArtistoftheWeek:Steve Kopandy7/27/10-8/2/10

I was two years late to find out about this artist. Especially his Double Disc release, Based On [Disc 1] A True Dream [Disc 2]. All I can say is that I love the songs from him because of the sound. His sound really reminds me of the 90s. The alternative sound with the Pop vocals. Involving nothing but a guitar and a piano. I love that. I just love 90's music and Steve Kopandy reminds me so much of it. He's one of the singers that are ahead of their time. Too bad he couldn't have released this album in 1997. One of his songs could've been a one-hit. Played on the radio by the now (extinct) Radio DJs and community stations.
Ahh, those were the days. Too young to remember them but I appreciate them. His Two-Disc album, Based On A True Dream, is a collection of 18-tracks reflecting songs from the adventures of the world. From Japan, Latin America, Europe, Canada, Australia, and the US.

ArtistoftheWeek:Lisa Mitchell6/3/10-6/10/10

No one in America has heard of Lisa Mitchell, you don't hear about this artist on the Top 40 Radio or hear about her album be on the Billboard Top 200, but her album, Wonder, has sold over 100, 000 records and her songs are really famous in Australia. She's that artist only for Australia. It sucks because it'd be great to break from this "electro fad" mainstream music is in right now. [Moving on] I heard about this artist by stumbling onto a blog, and the cover looked cool so I checked it out, and I really loved it!
The first song I loved was, Neopolitan Dreams, a great song for the morning.
So Jealous, is great because of the vocal disdain in Mitchell's voice.
Coin Laundry, is so cute and poppy plus the intro is great.
Clean White Love, really laidback track, nice feeling.
Oh! Hark!, the song's so upbeat.
