See now I looked far and wide for a Silent Night song like Priscilla Ahn's or at least as calm and restful as that song, but so many musicians I guess didn't grasp (or care) about the "Silent Night". So I'm posting two songs from Sufjan Stevens. One 24 second instrumental of Silent Night and To Be Alone With You, a song that grasps the calm and restful feeling of the Silent Night. Hope You Guys Enjoy! Here's The Songs: December 24th 2010: Silent Night/To Be Alone With You by Sufjan Stevens
I love this song, Sam Phillips is amazing and this song really reminds me of the feeling I get when Christmas comes around that I try to forget about. December 23rd 2010: It Doesn't Feel Like Christmas by Sam Phillips
Listening to this song is perfect for reflection on the year and Christmastime in 2010. A lovely song by Mr. Fitzsimmons, I think I'm starting to warm up to him. December 21st: Covered In Snow by William Fitzsimmons
Emily Hearn's music has really touched people's hearts with her songs. She released an EP in 2009 called, Paper Hearts. She started a project on Kickstarter, a way for her fans to fund her debut album that is expected to release sometime either in fall 2011 or Spring 2012. I found out about Emily when I was exploring Kickstarter and saw all of the amazing artists on the website. When I found out about her when I clicked on her I watched the video and the song that played. I thought that she was pretty good so I looked her up saw her site which was pretty cool and listened to her EP. If you liked Clara C, then you'll love Emily Hearn! Amanda Duncan is cool, fun, and awesome! I found out about this artist when she started following me on twitter. At first I was thinking, who's this and then I checked her out and I was thinking, "Oh wow, I should check this girl out some more." So I listen to some more of her songs and I liked what I heard. Then I heard that she was coming to my College and I was excited about this! On Nov. 13th she came and sang cool songs to me and my college friends and we enjoyed the laughs, talks, and sing-alongs with her. I bought her EP and some buttons, I would've bought a shirt too but they were only girl sizes. So I talked to her and we had a good time. I even gave her a mix CD (or 2) to enjoy on her time on the road. I then listened to her EP the day after and I loved it. One of my favorite songs is, The Words That I Say. It reminds me of the country pop music I listened to when I was little and the tone of her voice in the song reminds me of Natalie Maines. If you don't know about Amanda you should check her out!
P.S. Go buy her EP, it's only 5$ and you get 6 songs from it. It's not hard and it's really cheap too. Take that one day off from the 5$ footlong dinner and spend it on Music!
I just found out about this artist through bandcamp.com and I gave her a listen. Her music is amazing, and the quality of her songs for the first ones to make for purchase was pretty good. She's a really fresh artist, and if you're the kind of person that want to find out about new artists you should check her out!
Lights is amazing. At first she had some hard times making a great chorus for her songs because she was so focused on her vocal strength but now she's exploding through the industry with her style, melodies, feeling and voice. You should check Lights out. It's a Must! Her music is perfect for the Autumn and Winter seasons. Fun Fact #2: My Boots is my favorite song of her's. It's also climbing up the charts for dance/pop music for iTunes.
I know I know I need to stop doing this and post the AOTW's on time. That time-management is a trick sometimes. But I will be posting the next AOTW this week. You might like them or not but if you have any suggestions I'll take you up on it. I kind of feel bad only posting female singers on the blog. But there's so many beautiful female voices that I love that I just can't help it sometimes. Also, I know that some people that are following AOTW like the International music and some don't. I'm going to do my best to balance it out for you guys.
Hanwell is a band that a friend of mine told me about. They're an indie pop band from Des Moines, Iowa. This is a first for me to post an ArtistoftheWeek from Iowa. I've heard bands from Iowa and, let's just say they were really bad.At first I didn't really know what to expect from the band because my friend told me they were from Iowa so I thought they're songs would be unorganized, bland, and downright depressing. But, after I listened to Paperback Blues I was impressed by the band. I really like them now and I think that they deserve to be ArtistoftheWeek this week. Clara C, an amazing singer-songwriter with the heart filled light and the mind filled with catchy pop songs for those sunny autumn days. This new artist has been making a breakthrough with her popular videos of her covering pop songs. Taking something like, Use Somebody and making it her own. She's been featured in many songs and has collaborated with many musicians all over America. This artist has won 1st place for the Kollaboration for 2010. She's recently graduated from College this year!Which is pretty impressive that she did all those videos and wrote all the songs while in College. She's worked with Wong Fu Productions for a couple of films. She's been everywhere. If this is your first time hearing about her from me. You've missed out! It's ok though, she just released her debut album, The Art In My Heart, last Friday so don't hesitate to order this amazing album. The CD has lyrics, photos, and of course the CD. Plus if you're lucky you might get it signed!
Clara C is a great artist to have in your music collection.
