ArtistoftheWeek:She & Him3/22/09-3/29/09

She & Him is an American indie pop band consisting of actress Zooey Deschanel (vocals, piano, banjo) and musician M.(Matt) Ward (guitar, production). The band’s first album, Volume One, was released on Merge Records in March, 2008.
Deschanel and Ward first met on the set of the film The Go-Getter[hmm…I wondered why I was so into the movie.ha ha.], in which the actress had a starring role. The director of the film, Martin Hynes, introduced the two and asked them to sing a duet together to be played at the end credits of the film. They decided to perform a Richard and Linda Thompson song entitled “When I Get to the Border”. The two bonded over their shared interest in certain songs and artists. Ward, having heard Deschanel sing previously in the film Elf, was surprised that she wrote songs herself and had many home demos. He asked her to send them to him. Deschanel was shy about music, but sent them to him anyway. Ward called her a short time later, and told her that he would like to record her songs properly, and their band She & Him was formed shortly after that. Deschanel said in an interview: “I always have loved music, ever since I was really little. I just loved to sing.”
For the Album “Volume One” the two originally worked together via e-mail, with Ward in his Portland, Oregon studio and Deschanel in her Los Angeles, California home. Ward would spend time “tinkering” with the music after Deschanel sent it to him, but Zooey eventually had to go to his studio to put the finishing touches on their album. They recorded in Portland in December 2006 and February-March 2007. It took them three recording sessions to complete the album. They also recorded in Mike Coykendall’s and Adam Selzer’s studios, and had a mixing session with Mike Mogis in his Omaha, Nebraska studio in either April or May 2007.
For the upcoming Album “Volume Two” in an interview on October 8th, 2008 with paste magazine, M. Ward announced that She & Him are currently working on volume two. When asked about the album Ward said “Zooey has about a gazillion brand new awesome songs. All we know about Volume Two is that it’s going to be twice as good as Volume One.
I first found out about She & Him from randomly hearing the song “Sentimental Heart”. I think at Barnes and Nobel, and I knew that I fell in love with the song. Then after about four to five months after that first listen of their music I finally found out who sung the song from Again I say is the best! I found out that Zooey Deschanel sings for She & Him and I was surprised but expected it. Because all actresses that I like are either lesbians, musicians or both[Leisha Hailey! :D Favorite L Word Character!]. At the most part…I then checked out M. Ward as soon as I found out he released a lot of albums. So after I watched The Go-Getter. The movie that started this great band! Him and Zooey Deschanel seperate are good, but together they’re the best.

ArtistoftheWeek:Jeevan Singh3/15/09-3/22/09

Jeevan Singh[pronounced: Heevan/Geevan Sing]
I know the last name is sing but the first is either pronouced geevan or heevan. I wish I knew!

"Imagine walking on snow at night in the quiet abandoned farmlands of upstate New York. Imagine a soft pillow to your ear."

Jeevan Singh is a Indie Folk/Pop Singer Songwriter. She was born in Manhattan and has been in Portland and is now living in Spain.
March 1983, New York, the snow fell softly. Her mother had studied classical Spanish guitar in the city, Puerto Rico, and later NYU. She wrote songs about liberty. Her mother sang to her first child in the womb.
March 1997, New York, she was gifted a round guitar, her first guitar, by her mother.
July 2002, Portland, newly relocated, she met a wonder of songwriters, artists, and activists.
Jeevan Singh grew up listening to Cat Stevens, old Bollywood soundtracks, and her mother’s songs on the guitar. She lived in Portland, Oregon and played with two bands there - Love Menu and Gatos - as well as solo.
August 2008, Portland, she released "Golden Lights EP" on House of Sound Records as a sort of goodbye to Portland.
September 2008, Spain, she packed her bags to test her luck on another continent. Now she's in the process of writing new songs.

Dri is a reletively new artist that I found out about from Only Available in US website) They've introduced me to so many great artists. I found out about New Buffalo from and many other great artists.[about 15 of my artists I found out about from Pandora.]
Dri has two music videos out which is very good for a person which isn't recognized or even promoted that much. Which sucks, cause she deserves to be known. At least iTunes mention her on iTunes Singer-Songwriters thing in..December?....January?...Dang! I can't remember! Anyway Dri's music is of a vocals of soulful approach and melodies of electronica. My favorite song on the Smoke Rings album is Don't Wait. It's a very catchy song with a great meaning.
Dri's small fame does not mean that she can't do anything because noone knows about her music. She has 2 music videos out, three websties, and more. Dri is stepping up to the plate with the term Do-It-Yourself Method. I love Indie music and independence.
She has been a singer for awhile before she released her debut album. She was the female singer in Fourth Of July. And I think she still is.

As If my internet did not want me to wirte it.
Strange but that's the past.(yesterday and the day before that and the day before....)
So On with the bioblog.
Hope Shorter is a pop singer-songwriter. Her most famous song is Who Am I To Say? that played on the Tyler Perry movie, "Why Did I Get Married?"So far since that popular feature of Hope's style and experience of music many people requested the song or the artist to create or sing a new song for their TV/Movie. an example of this is on "P.S. I Love You" and her song "Fortress".(aka my favorite song.)
She has been singed to a record label and is no longer independent. Her debut album was self-released last year and will be re-released sometime this year and could have bonus tracks! :D
She has done more songs and has featured them on her myspace page.
She has been touring and has been playing that oh so famous song of her's, "Who Am I To Say?" and her recently other popular song,"The Rain Don't Last".
